Looking for an experience, something to remember or a place to return to and do something different?
Here is a short list of the top things you must see and do in the Blackwood Valley.  Make certain you stop and visit the local Visitor Centres before making your way around the Blackwood Valley.

You can research more details of things to see and do within individual areas before you leave home by contacting the local Visitor Centres, or by visiting their websites.

Food and Wine:

As you explore the Blackwood Valley you will find many restaurants and cafes providing fresh delicious food prepared from local produce, and also a wide range of gourmet deli selections.

Be sure to enjoy our wonderful Blackwood River wines - you'll find them at wineries throughout the region.  Also visit the award winning fruit wineries and cideries in the Valley.

Walking Trails:

There are a number of well marked walking trails throughout the area.  You can choose to follow heritage, bush or town trails.  Or for the more adventurous, walk a section of the famous Bibbulum Track.

Scenic Drives:

The hills and valleys of the Blackwood Valley provide magnificent scenic vistas on almost any drive within the area.  With verdant green hillsides in winter, and also during the wildflower season they are particularly lovely.

The drive from Nannup to Balingup following the Blackwood River and the highway to Bridgetown are two of the most attractive tourist drives in the south west.

Either bring your own canoe or hire one to enjoy canoeing on the Blackwood River from a number of locations including Boyup Brook, Bridgetown, Nannup and Maranup Ford.

Further details on canoeing/kayaking

The Blackwood River is stocked annually with rainbow trout by the WA Department of Fisheries and this is probably supplemented by recruitment from the natural fish population in suitable seasons.

Peak fishing times are September through to mid-December and the best area is from Bridgetown to the Great North Road.
Make sure you have a W.A. Freshwater Licence, as even catching feral goldfish and perch requires a licence.

Festivals and Events:

There are many festivals and events held throughout the Blackwood Valley.  Join with the locals to enjoy the annual music festivals of blues, jazz, country music, folk or classics.  Old fashioned agricultural and small farm events hold interest for young and old alike.  Or for something different try a Medieval outing.

Cycling and Cycle Trails:

Enjoy the peace and beauty of the natural surroundings as never before - at your own pace from the seat of a bicycle.

There are a number of cycle trails nearby the towns of the Valley, and also some more designated mountain bike trails run through the Valley bushland, such as the Old Timberline Rail Trail near Nannup and sections of the Mundi Biddi Trail.

Parks & Gardens:

Due to the climate and soils of the Blackwood Valley many parks and gardens are available for enjoyment throughout the entire year.  The profusion of deciduous trees make autumn a particularly colourful season, while fruit trees blossom in abundance during spring.  Specific Open Garden Festivals are held during both autumn and spring.

A visit to the Golden Valley Tree Park (Western Australia's largest Arboretum Park) in autumn is a must, and the local Visitor Centres will be pleased to direct you to great places for a picnic or to sit and relax and enjoy nature.

Galleries, Art & Crafts and Antiques:

Galleries and local art & craft centres are dotted throughout the Valley and there are also many fine antique outlets to explore.
